Velos Implemented To Create Networked Clinical Research Infrastructure
For The UNM Cancer Research & treatment Center

Albuquerque, New Mexico – April 8, 2005

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Cancer Research & treatment Center (CRTC) and Velos, Inc. are pleased to announce today that the University of New Mexico CRTC has implemented Velos eResearch in a regional network to support clinical trials and research information needs.

The UNM CRTC is unique in implementing a network of research affiliates through the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance, with clinical trials and infrastructure being available at the CRTC and at member clinics and hospitals in the Alliance.

“The ability to bring our entire network together on the same operational systems while managing appropriate security and privacy is a critical need in our effort to make access to information and clinical trials easier for physicians and patients in our community” said Cheryl Willman, MD, director of the UNM CRTC.

“We are delighted to be part of the team in the research-driven community approach taken by the leadership in oncology in New Mexico. Velos’ advanced features that enable ‘create-as-needed’ multi-organization networks, for both diseases and clinical trials, are contributing to a new cancer research reality in New Mexico today. This is a model that will be copied.” said John McIlwain, CEO and President of Velos, Inc.

Clinician and management leaders at UNM and the oncology community in New Mexico envisioned a seamless network for clinical trials that extends within the Cancer Center, and across other clinics and hospitals that deliver oncology care to the community.

The network supports trials that can be offered across the entire membership, decreasing set-up and administrative burdens and providing added safeguards through central reminders, alerts, messaging, and workflows for patients and nurses in any particular trial.

The Cancer Research & treatment Center has deployed Velos eResearch for use in research administration, budgeting, patient management, electronic data capture, clinical data management, adverse event management, trial, patient and adverse event reporting and analysis. All the functions are entirely managed over the Internet.
